Isaac Stone is Jacob Stone's estranged father. He runs a struggling family company in Oklahoma. He does not have a good relationship with Jacob, since the elder Stone is given to quick and cutting criticism. He thinks his son is utterly worthless and has no idea his son is a genius. Even when confronted with the evidence, Isaac manages to ignore what's right in front of his face, although this failure to reconnect does at least spur Jacob to claim authorship of the many and seminal works he has written, since he realizes neither his success nor failure is going to give him the connection he wants with his dad.
According to his son at least, Isaac is a hard-working, hard-drinking, hard-fighting man with the oil business in his veins but no head for the account books.
