Its exact magical abilities remain unseen. However, a reasonable assumption would be that the powers are water related, likely the artefact is able to control and manipulate water.
Extreme Strength - Flynn Carsen was able to use the Trident in order to fight of an attack from Excalibur, who had been previously instructed by Judson to attack Flynn whenever he felt like it, in order to improve Flynn's swordsmanship during the original film series.
Real Life Counterpart[]
Poseidon is the Greek god of the Sea, and everything in it. His Roman counterpart was Neptune. His signature weapon was a powerful magical trident, which could, for example, create water out of nowhere, conjure up tidal waves or summon an instantaneous storm. Poseidon had complete dominion over the seas as his brother Zeus did over the heavens and Hades over the underworld.
